Lena Dunham, of all people, recently wrote an essay partly about how growing up in NYC was horrific for her at times. Her parents weren’t city people by birth and the city was “exciting” for them. She had to step over dead bodies and dodge crazy people and such on the way to school as a child, and did NOT enjoy it quite so much.

Absolutely loved reading your Millennial Snot piece on The Upheaval!

Something I would disagree with is that this Snot is millennial - I remember in the 90s the emergence of the ironic fridge magnet (‘Step aside coffee, this is a job for wine’), the rude or hilarious greetings cards (‘I’m not 43, I’m 18 with 25 years experience’) and Father’s Day being about having a lazy, stupid dad (‘World’s best farter, oops I mean Father’).

I assumed it was a craze, but noted it never went away….and turned into exactly what you describe!

If anyone wants a glimpse of what these type of people were like before Social Justice, the series Nathan Barley sums them up perfectly.
