I say it somewhat in jest. Oil is harder to get now, for sure, but JMG loses me with his relentlessly negative approach. Nuclear is no good, fusion is no good, solar is no good, whatever it is we're doomed in his eyes. A solid oil asteroid could enter orbit around earth and he'd find some reason why it won't work and we're doomed.
JMG is quite based, although I understand where you're coming from. Peak Oil does in fact loom over us; we may have borrowed time through fracking and other means, but we're still on borrowed time. Eventually, our extravagant consumption of fossil fuels will have to wind down as crude oil gets too expensive.
That said, I don't agree with his dismissal of nuclear energy, nor with his rejection of space colonization (formidable a challenge as it might be). I do agree that solar/wind/geothermal/hydro are all limited in their own ways, with only nuclear being capable of replacing fossil fuels.
