Lippincott’s thread is interesting. It doesn’t change my opinion about Mace who’s still an opportunistic moron, but the father-daughter dynamic is interesting.
I feel like I see this in with real-life girlbosses. They aren’t exactly feminists, but they definitely have something to prove. And it’s never going to be enough. I’ve rarely seen a happy girlboss. They’re frazzled, cynical, and often burn out.
It amazes me how mysterious the role of a father is, both for girls and boys. It’s easy to see how kids need their mom, but we’re always looking for substitutes for dads because what they contribute is less visible. But it’s real all the same.
I have worked under a number of women like this and while they are often very good at what they do, they often seem like they're at the end of their rope.
